LAKE WACCAMAW – Nick Rye cracked a 1-out single to left field that scored Austin Jacobs with the winning run in the bottom of the 6th inning as East Columbus claimed a 5-4 non-conference jayvee baseball walk-off victory over West Bladen Wednesday. The game was ended due to time limit.

The Gators had loaded the bases on Devon Jennerette’s single, a walk to Jacobs and an error. Knight pitcher Aiden Russ threw out Jennerette at the plate, before Rye’s winning hit.

After East took a 1-0 lead, the Knights tied the game in the 3rd inning. Aiden Russ walked, stole 2nd base and darted home as Jackson Smith reached base on an error.

The Gators turned 4 walks and a fielder’s choice into a trio of 3rd inning runs for a 4-1 East lead.

Caison Brixey drew a 1-out walk in the West 4th inning, and Jonah Bryan lined a single to left. Ryan Dove beat out an infield hit to load the bases, and Chason Harris reached base on an error that scored Brixey and Bryan to sliced the lead to 4-3.

Allister Russ belted a single to center field to begin the Knight 5th inning. Smith walked, and Weston Hilburn reached base on an error to load the bases. Brixey knocked in Allister Russ with a single to right to tie the game, but Smith was thrown out at the plate to keep the score 4-4.

Aiden Russ, Allister Russ, Brixey, Bryan and Dove connected for 1 hit each for the Knights. Brixey drove in a run, and Aiden Russ, Allister Russ, Brixey and Bryan scored runs.

Hilburn started on the mound for West and pitched 2.1 innings allowing 3 runs on 1 hit and 8 walks while striking out two. Aiden Russ worked 3 innings of relief giving up 2 runs – 1 earned – on 3 walks and 2 hits while striking out two.

Rye pitched 2 innings in relief of starter Landyn Jacobs to pick up the win for East. Rye had the game-winning hit for East, and Adrion Jenerette and Devon Jenerette had 1 hit each.

The Knight jayvees, now 0-2, will open Southeastern Athletic Conference play Tuesday at Clinton.
