DUNN – A trio of West Bladen pitchers combined to pitch a no-hitter Tuesday, but 6 walks, 2 hit batters and 3 Knight errors produced 6 Midway runs as the Raiders defeated the Knights 6-3 in Southeastern Athletic Conference jayvee baseball action.
Weston Hilburn started on the mound for the Knights and allowed 4 runs – 3 earned – on 4 walks and 2 hit batters in 1.1 innings. Tyler Lewis struck out 5 batters in his 3.1 innings of relief and gave up 2 unearned runs on 2 walks. Aiden Russ came on to get the final out in the 5th inning retiring the only batter that he faced.
The Knights grabbed a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning. Ryan Dove ripped a single through the middle, stole 2nd base and raced home when Jonah Bryan belted a single to center field. Aiden Russ reached base on an error, and Allister Russ knocked in Bryan with single to center field.
Bryan raked a base hit past 3rd in the Knight 6th inning, advanced on a fielder’s choice and scooted home when Allister Russ ripped a single to left to trim the Raider lead to 6-3.
Allister Russ batted 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs to lead the Knight hitters. Bryan finished 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 runs scored and an RBI. Dove, Hilburn and Lewis connected for 1 hit each for West. Dove scored a run.
Coach Matt Hill’s Knights, now 3-4 in SAC-7 play and 5-6 overall, will host Midway Friday at 4 p.m.
