East Bladen High SchoolDUBLIN – Sophmore Spencer Scott pitched a 5-hitter and batted 3-4 to lead East Bladen to a 9-3 victory over West Bladen Thursday in Four County Conference jayvee baseball action.

Scott struck out six, hit one batter and did not walk a batter.

Freshman Gabe Barber drew a lead-off walk in the Eagle first inning. Sophmore Dan Tatum sacrificed Barber to second, and Scott knocked him in with a single. Scott stole second, and sophmore Pierce Melvin belted a single that plated Scott.

Holden Clark was hit by a pitch, and freshman Jake Evans laced a single that scored Clark for a 3-0 Eagle lead.

The Knights netted a run in the second inning. Freshman Colby White reached on an error, freshman Nolan Bryant sacrificed him to second and freshman Braylon Williamson cracked a single that scored White and trimmed the margin to 3-1.

West Bladen tied the game with 2 runs in the third. Sophmore Dalton Pait led off with a single and came around to score on sophmore Derrick Long’s fielder’s choice. Sophmores David Valenta and Jeremy Pait smacked singles, and White connected for a single that scored Valenta.

Evans drew a walk in the Eagle fourth, and freshman Xavier McKoy hammered a triple that plated Evans. Freshman Lawson Hester swatted a single that scored McKoy for a 5-3 East lead.

Tatum walked and Scott delivered another single in the Eagle fifth inning. Clark blasted a triple that plated Tatum and Scott. Clark sprinted home on a passed ball to pad the lead to 8-3.

The Eagles tacked on a run in the sixth. Hester rapped a one-out single, and walks to Barber, Tatum and Scott forced home Hester.

Scott drove in 2 runs and scored two. Hester finished 2-3 at the plate with a run batted in and a run scored. Clark clobbered the 2-run triple and scored a run. McKoy slammed the rbi triple and scored a run.

Melvin and Evans added one hit each. Melvin and Evans drove in runs. Barber, Tatum and Evans scored runs for East.

Dalton Pait, Jeremy Pait, White, Valenta and Williamson connected for one hit each for West Bladen. Dalton Pait, Valenta and White scored runs. Long, Williamson and White picked up one rbi each.

Sophmore Brandon Strange pitched for the Knights, striking out 6 and allowing 9 hits, 5 walks and 3 hit batters.

Coach Ritchie Priest’s Eagle jayvees finished their season with a 12-1 conference record and 14-2 overall record. The Knight jayvees concluded their season with a 4-8-1 league record and 9-10-1 overall mark.
