ELIZABETHTOWN – Jacob Nixon and Peyton Tatum combined for 27 points Tuesday to lead East Bladen to a 37-33 victory over Whiteville in the Three Rivers Conference jayvee boys basketball opener for both teams.

Nixon topped the East Bladen scoring with 14 points, and Tatum threw in 13 points. Teammates Lee Barnes and Corey Robbins added 4 points each.

Tatum dropped in 2 baskets, and Robbins dropped in a basket and a free throw to keep the Eagles within 8-7 at the quarter break. Nixon and Tatum drained 3-point shots, and Barnes tossed in 2 baskets as East Bladen jumped ahead 17-12 at halftime.

Nixon sank 4 free throws, and Tatum flipped in 2 baskets as the Eagles kept a 27-24 lead. Nixon pumped in 2 baskets and 2 free throws in the final quarter, and Tatum made 2 free throws as East Bladen held on for the win.

The Eagles will travel to West Columbus Wednesday for a 3 p.m. game.
