ELIZABETHTOWN – Shannon Hankins and Tevin McLean keyed a 13-2 3rd quarter surge that carried East Bladen to a 27-13 Southeastern Athletic Conference jayvee boys basketball victory over West Bladen Friday.

The Knights led 11-8 at halftime, but Hankins’ 3-point play tied the game and a Hankins lay-up vaulted East ahead 13-11. McLean and Chace Butler grew the Eagle lead to 17-11 with lay-ups, before Elijah McCollum raced for a lay-up for the Knights. Ronnie Covington powered in a follow, and McLean added a lay-up to extend the lead to 21-13.

Covington and Kewone Maynor sprinted for lay-ups in the final period, and teammate Malikah Moore put back a rebound for the final East bucket.

Moore and Butler shared East scoring honors with 6 points each. Hankins followed with 5 points, and McLean and Covington added 4 points each. Cade Allen led West Bladen with 6 points.

Gavin Elks and Allen buried baseline jumpers, and Noah Hall sank a free throw as West jumped in front 5-0 to start the game. Butler’s lay-up put East on the board, but rebound baskets by Allen and center Tyleak Ballard stretched the Knight lead to 9-2. Moore’s lay-up whittled the lead to 9-4.

Lay-ups by Butler and Moore trimmed the West lead to 9-8, before Allen muscled in a lay-up to give the Knights the 11-8 halftime lead.

Coach Aking Elting’s Eagles improved to 2-1 in SAC-7 play and 8-2 overall. East Bladen will entertain Rocky Point Trask Wednesday, while West Bladen, now 1-1 in SAC-7 play and 4-5 overall, will host Fairmont Tuesday.
