ROSE HILL – Javontae Matthews poured in 24 points to lead West Bladen to a 71-26 non-conference jayvee boys basketball victory over Union Tuesday night in the season-opener for both teams.
Matthews fired in a 3-point shot and 3 other baskets in the first period as the Knights took a 20-9 lead. Matthews nailed another 3-point shot and racked up 11 points in the second quarter as the Knight lead grew to 48-13 at halftime.
Javarrie Adams pumped in 9 points for the winners, and Anthony Mitchell and Anthony Cowan finished with 7 points each.
Dylyn Aycocu worked the paint for 15 points to lead the Spartans.
West Bladen will host Fairmont on Tuesday night in their Three Rivers Conference opener.
