LELAND -Javonte Smith scored the deciding goal late in the game Tuesday as East Bladen edged North Brunswick 2-1 in the non-conference junior varsity season-opener for both teams.
“Javonte scored the game-winner on a through ball with under 10 minutes to play,” said Eagle Coach Jay Raynor.
“The Jayvees played well,” noted Raynor. “Treydon Scott served a ball into the box from a free kick from 30 yards out. Yordi Gomez was able to make a run, put a head on it and push it past the keeper.”
Gomez’ goal came late in the opening half and staked East to a 1-0 lead. The Scorpions scored a 2nd half goal to tie the match 1-1.
