ELIZABETHTOWN- Freshman Marlee Potter and sophomore Jenna Brice ignited a 12-2 closing run in the deciding set that propelled East Bladen’s jayvees to a 2-1 season-opening volleyball victory over Clinton Tuesday by set scores of 26-24, 21-25 and 15-9.

The Lady Eagles trailed 7-3 in the final set when Potter reeled off 4 straight service points for an 8-7 lead. After Clinton tied the set 8-8, Brice fired in 5 straight service points to put East up 14-8 and a side-out secured match point.

Brice led the East Bladen scoring with 11 service points, and sophomore Aubrie Nixon tallied 9 service points. Potter finished with 7 service points. Freshman Tatum Allen captured 5 service points, and freshman Kaylie Atkins followed with 4 service points. Freshman Taylor Dowless added a service point.

Four service points from Allen and 3 more from Atkins staked the Lady Eagles to a 16-10 lead in the opening set, before Niah Tornes rallied Clinton with an 11-point service run that produced a 22-16 lead. Nixon answered with a 7-point service run that edged East in front 24-22. Potter served out the set at 26-24.

Brice kept East Bladen within 23-21 in the 2nd set with a pair of 3-point service runs, before Clinton pulled out the set.

Coach Jessica Eason’s Lady Eagles will host county rival West Bladen Thursday at 4:30.
