FAIRMONT- Sophomore Emmee Ward and freshman Marlene Crabtree teamed up to pitch a 4-hit shutout and strike out 8 batters as West Bladen blanked Fairmont 16-0 Tuesday in Southeastern Athletic Conference jayvee softball action.

Ward started in the circle and pitched 2 innings allowing 3 hits and no walks while striking out three. Crabtree pitched 2 innings of no-hit relief and striking out 5 while hitting a batter and walking one.

By contrast Fairmont pitching walked 18 batters, hit 5 and 2 more reached base on passed 3rd strikes. West Bladen scored 7 runs in the 1st inning and added 2 runs in the 2nd, 3 more in the 3rd and 4 in the 4th inning.

Freshman Holland Davis walked 3 times, was hit once and scored 4 runs for the Lady Knights. Teammate Violet Allen smacked a 4th inning single, walked and scored 3 runs. Laci Buffkin walked 3 times and scored 3 runs. Sophomore Megan Pait walked twice and scored twice.

Crabtree yanked a 1st inning single to left field for the other West Bladen hit. Ward walked 3 times and scored a run. Alina Chavez walked twice and scored a run. Ayanna Jones drew 2 walks, was hit by a pitch and scored a run. Shelby Burns walked, was hit twice by pitches, scored a run and drove in a run with a fielder’s choice.

Coach Joe Lewis’ Lady Knight jayvees, now 2-0, will host Fairmont again Friday.
