Bladen County golfer Kayla Thompson was quoted in a LPGA news release after she advanced to Stage II of the LPGA/Epson Tour qualifying tournament.

Thompson shot even-par 288 over four rounds in the Stage I qualifying tournament played in late August on three courses in Rancho Mirage, California.

“I’m really proud of myself for staying patient and sticking to the process all week, but especially today,” Thompson was quoted in the release after her final-round 2-under 70 that secured on the Dinah Shore course that secured her advancement. “There has been a lot of hard work all season, and it feels great to see it pay off this week. I felt really good coming into the week; my game felt solid. It feels even better leaving knowing this wasn’t my best, and I left some shots out on the course, but the game was still good enough.”

Thompson was among 99 players who advanced to Stage II qualifying scheduled Oct. 17-20 in Venice, Florida.

Players are vying for spot on the LPGA and Epson tours for 2024.

Thompson lives in Clarkton and graduated from West Bladen High School.
