Spread the love

Dear Editor:

I am writing to ask readers to request that County Commissioners invest in the future of our children.  I am asking readers to request that County Commissioners make a decision that will have a lasting impact on countless students. I am asking readers to ensure the futures of our students and preserve Bladen County’s ability to deliver first rate education.

As you may know, seven teachers were let go at Monday night’s Board of Education meeting due to a shortage of funds. This will be a great loss to our county schools. These teachers have brought fresh energy and inspiration to our children over the past year.

After announcing the decision, the board suggested that concerned community members contact the Bladen County Board of Commissioners to ask them to consider two possible options:

·  to allocate funds to preserve the jobs of these seven teachers in the amount of  $378,000.

OR

· to authorize the Board of Education to transfer funds from the Capital Outlay budget to the personnel budget.

I ask that concerned individuals write a letter immediately or call the commissioners asking our representatives to support these teachers by selecting one of these options. There is little time to spare. The County Commissioners meet this coming Monday, June 18th at 6:30 in the courthouse in Elizabethtown.

By not getting involved, we will be forcing these valuable human resources to leave Bladen County. Our children are counting on you.  Ask our representatives to make the decision in the best interests of our children.

The commissioners contact information can be found on the county’s website, https://bladennc.govoffice3.com/, and then search for the key word “commissioners”. It will be on the top of the found documents.

Thank you for helping in this effort!

Respectfully,

Cynthia Chisholm
