Wilmington, NC – Lower Cape Fear LifeCare seeks volunteers in Bladen and Columbus counties to give families support, friendship and time together when they need it most.

The local nonprofit will conduct a volunteer orientation on Thursday, Dec. 15, from 1-4 p.m., at its Angel House Hospice Care Center, 206 Warrior Trail Rd., Whiteville, NC. For more information or to sign up to attend, call 910-796-7900 or email Volunteer.Department@lifecare.org.

Volunteers play a crucial role in providing excellent care and support to local individuals and families living with a terminal or life-limiting illness. Volunteers’ time and talents, combined with LCFL training and guidance, gives families support and friendship to help improve their quality of life.

Volunteer opportunities include, but are not limited to, providing companionship and respite, helping plan special celebrations, assisting in making bucket list wishes come true, providing care for family pets, performing administrative tasks, helping with fundraising events, and welcoming guests to our hospice care center.

Veterans are needed to serve as members of LCFL’s Vet-to-Vet program. Often, a fellow Veteran can provide understanding and camaraderie that no one else can. They also ensure Veteran patients feel honored and appreciated for their service to our country through pinning ceremonies.

LCFL also needs volunteers for its Memory Partners program. These volunteers provide respite care for family caregivers to loved ones living with a dementia-related illness. They ensure caregivers can go to a doctor’s appointment, relax, take a walk, read a book, or get together with a friend for coffee.

People from all walks of life with a variety of skills and talents are encouraged to volunteer. LCFL welcomes a diverse and inclusive group of volunteers to match the needs of our community. Male volunteers are especially needed as often male patients prefer a male volunteer to provide companionship, social and emotional support.

Lower Cape Fear LifeCare is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing access to the highest quality LifeCare, education, and supportive services to our patients, their families, and the communities we serve. For more information, visit lifecare.org.
