
WILMINGTON – Former East Bladen star Maya McDonald poured in 5 goals Wednesday to lead her Cape Fear Community College Sea Devils to a 6-0 women’s soccer victory over Wake Tech. McDonald fell 1 goal short of tying her own single-game scoring record of 6 goals.
McDonald’s 1st goal came off a cross from teammate Johanna Morales in the 10th minute and gave Cape Fear a 2-0 lead. The speedy sophomore scored 3 more goals in the opening half and added 1 more goal after halftime. She received assists from Halie Blizzard, Sarah Smith and Justine Moesch.
In an earlier win over Louisburg, McDonald dished out 2 assists and scored 1 goal. She delivered 2 goals in a 4-0 win at USC-Sumter.
McDonald has racked up 10 goals and 2 assists in 5 games this season as the Sea Devils have posted a 4-0-1 record. She has fired off 29 shots and 21 shots on goal.
Cape Fear will host Richard Bland Wednesday at 3 p.m.
