BLADENBORO – Ashton Davis pitched a 1-hitter and struck out 12 batters to lead Bladenboro to a 11-0 Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball victory over Clarkton School of Discovery Monday.

Blue Devil Aidan Trinidad drew a 1st inning walk, and Jaxon Hair smacked a single to left-center field with 2-out in the 5th inning to end Davis’ no-hit bid. (Correction: When first reported it listed Joshua Strickland got the single hit.)

Gavin Elks drew a 1-out walk in the Bulldog 1st inning, stole a base and darted home on a passed ball. Hunter Hester cracked a single, stole a base and raced home on a wild pitch. Davis walked, stole a base and circled the bases on a pair of wild pitches for a 3-0 Bladenboro lead.

Hester laced a single to right to begin the home 3rd inning, stole a base and dashed around the bases on a pair of wild pitches. Weston Hilburn and Davis drew walks. Hilburn galloped home on a wild pitch. Chase Bryan reached base on an error, and Luke Bryant walked.

Corben Chadwick ripped a single to left that scored Davis and Chase Bryan. Cole Brisson walked. Jonah Bryan’s fielder’s choice plated Bryant. Elks drilled a single to left that scored Jonah Bryan and stretched the margin to 9-0.

Hester slammed a single to left to start the Bulldog 4th and scooted home when Hilburn smashed a single to center. Hilburn later scored on a wild pitch.

Hester batted a perfect 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored to lead the Bladenboro attack. Hilburn, Elks, and Chadwick connected for 1 hit each. Hilburn and Davis scored 2 runs each. Chadwick, Jonah Bryan, Luke Bryant and Chase Bryan scored 1 run each. Chadwick drove in 2 runs, and Elks and Hilburn drove in 1 run each.

Claxton Tatum started on the mound for the Blue Devils and worked 2-plus innings giving up 8 runs on 3 hits and 7 walks while striking out four. Trinidad relieved in the 3rd inning and worked 2 innings allowing 3 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks.

Coach Tim Benton’s Bulldogs improved to 4-0 and will travel to Tabor City Wednesday. The Blue Devils will host Williams Township Wednesday.
