CLARKTON – Ashton Davis and Chase Bryan combined on a 1-hitter and struck out 17 batters Tuesday to lead unbeaten Bladenboro to a 5-0 Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball victory over Clarkton School of Discovery.

Davis pitched 5.2 innings before reaching his pitch count limit and struck out 16 batters while walking 4, hitting 3 and allowing a 2nd inning single to Blue Devil Aiden Trinidad. Bryan retired all 4 batters that he faced in his 1.1 innings on the hill and struck out one.

The Bulldogs grabbed the early lead with 3 runs in the opening inning. Luke Bryant laced a single to left, Bryan yanked a single to left, and Davis blasted a home run to left-center field.

Bladenboro tacked on 2 more runs in the 5th inning. Gauge King walked, Bryant reached base on an error that scored Gauge King, and Bryan cracked a single that scored Bryant.

Davis batted 2-for-2 with a home run, a double, 3 RBI and a run scored. Bryan finished 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Bryant singled and scored 2 runs, and Gauge King singled and scored.

Trinidad started on the hill for the Blue Devils and struck out 5 batters while walking three.

Coach Tim Benton’s Bulldogs improved to 4-0 in league play and 5-0 overall and will host Tabor City Thursday. The Blue Devils, now 2-1 in league play ad 2-2 overall, will travel to Williams Township Thursday.
