CLARKTON – Dashon Campbell and Claxton Tatum combined to pitch a 1-hitter and strike-out 9 batters as Clarkton School of Discovery defeated Nakina 13-5 in Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball action Thursday.

Campbell started and pitched 1-plus innings allowing 3 runs on no hits, 2 walks and a hit batter, while striking out two. Tatum relieved and pitched the final 3 innings to pick up the win giving up 2 runs on 1 hit, 3 walks, and a hit batter while striking out seven.

Aidan Trinidad walked to start the Blue Devil 1st inning. Hunter Wood belted a single and Campbell was hit by a pitch. Trinidad darted home on a wild pitch. Cayden Moore reached base on an error that scored Wood. Joshua Strickland knocked in Campbell and Cayden Moore with a single. Jaxon Hair walked, and Kyran McKoy’s fielder’s choice plated Strickland and stretched the lead to 5-0.

Nakina used 3 walks and 2 errors to close the gap to 5-4 in the 2nd inning. Trinidad walked to begin the CSD 2nd, and Campbell drove him in with a single. Walks to Cayden Moore, Keyshawn Kemp and Strickland forced home Campbell and grew the lead to 7-4.

Kyran McKoy and Tatum started the Blue Devil 3rd inning with singles. Trinidad followed with a single, and Wood walked, before Campbell slammed a double, and Cayden Moore walked. McKoy, Tatum, Trinidad, Wood, Campbell and Moore scored runs to grow the Clarkton lead to 13-4.

A walk and an error plated the final Mustang run in the fourth.

Campbell batted 2-for-2 with the double to lead the CSD hitters. Trinidad, Wood, Strickland, McKoy and Tatum cracked 1 hit each. Trinidad and Campbell scored 3 runs each. Wood and Cayden Moore scored 2 runs each, and Strickland, McKoy and Tatum scored 1 run each.

Coach Robert Mazur’s Blue Devils improved to 2-1 in both league play and overall. Clarkton will travel to Bladenboro Monday.
