ELIZABETHTOWN –Fox Sutton pitched a 1-hitter and struck out 14 batters to lead Elizabethtown to an 11-1 Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball victory over Tar Heel Wednesday.
Coach Teffrey McKoy’s Cougars improved to 2-6 for the season. Tar Heel is now 0-9 and will play Emereau Bladen at Bladen County Park Thursday.
Isaiah Lloyd belted a 1-out single in the Cougar 2nd inning and raced home when Khalil Moore smashed a double. Moore later scored for a 2-0 Cougar lead.
Trey Wilson reached base on an error to start the Elizabethtown 3rd inning. Chandler Wall slammed a double to drive in Wilson. Jayden Byrd knocked in Wall with a double, and Lloyd smacked a single that scored Byrd. Lloyd later scored to boost the lead to 6-0.
Dylan McLaurin reached base on an error to start the Panther 4th inning. After Jayden Bethea walked, Demarius Guions drove in McLaurin with a Panther run.
Lewis walked and scored when Wilson laced a single to begin the Elizabethtown 4th inning. Wall slammed a double that scored Wilson, before Byrd walloped a 2-run homer that stretched the lead to 10-1.
Lloyd slugged a solo inside-the-park home run to lead off the 5th inning and end the game on the mercy-rule.
Lloyd batted 3-for-3 with a home run, 2 runs batted in and 3 runs scored to lead the Cougar hitters. Byrd finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, a home run, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Wall batted 2-for-3 with 2 doubles, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Wilson turned in a 2-for-3 game with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Moore doubled, drove in a run and scored a run. Lewis also scored a run.
McLaurin singled and scored a run for Tar Heel. Jordan King started on the mound and pitched 3 innings for the Panthers and allowed 6 runs on 6 hits while striking out 4. McLaurin worked 0.1 innings of relief striking out 1 and walking 1. Levi Velasco-Garcia worked 0.2 innings allowing 5 runs on 4 hits and a walk.
