TAR HEEL – Center Deonte Lacy powered in 22 points to lead Bladenboro to a 51-42 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over Tar Heel Thursday night.

Lacy worked the paint for 3 baskets and 3 free throws in the first period. Anthony Mitchell popped in a basket and Gary Parker sank 2 free throws as the Bulldogs edged in front 13-11.

Ikeir Murchison, Jordan Underwood and Ahmir Stepps threw in a basket and a free throw each for the Panthers in the opening quarter. Teammate Kearean Ballard added a basket.

Lacy rammed in a pair of second quarter baskets, and Mitchell and Parker tossed in a basket and a free throw each. Walter Bealon canned 2 free throws to pad the Bulldog halftime lead to 25-18.

Ballard pumped in a pair of baskets in the second period for the Panthers, and Stepps contributed a basket and a free throw.

Parker drove for a pair of baskets in the third quarter, and Lacy muscled in a basket and a free throw. Teammate Michael Young netted a basket to keep the Bulldog lead at 34-29.

Ballard rallied the Panthers in the third quarter with 2 baskets and a free throw. Stepps cashed in a trio of free throws, and Stefane Jessup drilled in a 3-point shot.

Lacy put back a trio of rebound baskets in the final quarter, and Landon Stanley drained a 3-point shot and another basket. Parker raced to the rim for 2 baskets and 2 free throws.

Ballard poured in 2 baskets and 3 free throws in the fourth period. Underwood buried a 3-point shot and a free throw, and Murchison tacked on a basket.

Parker finished with 15 points for the Bulldogs, and Stanley and Mitchell scored 5 points each. Ballard racked up 18 points for the Panthers. Stepps finished with 9 points, Underwood totaled 7 points, and Murchison followed with 5 points.

Coach Phillip Penny’s Bulldogs improved to 8-3 and will travel to Elizabethtown Monday. Tar Heel will play at Hallsboro Monday.
