Javant McDowell poured in 12 of his game-high 17 points in the third quarter as Clarkton School of Discovery opened up a 32-21 lead en route to a 51-44 Bladen Five Middle School Conference victory over visiting Bladenboro Thursday night.

McDowell’s third period outburst plus a Tashuan Berkley basket keyed the Blue Devils’ 14-7 spurt. Tray Ballard worked the paint for all 7 of Bladenboro’s points in the quarter.

Da’Shawn Hines pumped in 8 of his 10 points in the final quarter as the Bulldogs outscored the Blue Devils 23-19. Shy’Ron Adams fired in 7 of his 12 points for Bladenboro in the period.

Ballard dropped in 4 points in the final frame and topped the Bulldog scoring with 15 points. Teammates Logan West and Austin Smith added one basket each in the quarter.

Berkley fired in 8 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter to keep the Blue Devils on top. Lawson Hester popped in 5 of his 9 points for Clarkton in the final period. Garrett Melvin tallied 3 of his 5 points in the quarter, Jake Evans added 2, and McDowell tacked on a free throw.

Ballard powered in 4 points in the first quarter, West connected for 3 of his 5 points, and Adams made a free throw as Bladenboro edged in front 8-7. Hester, Berkley and Xavier McKoy scored baskets for CSD in the quarter and McDowell canned a free throw.

McDowell delivered 3 points for Clarkton in the second period, and Melvin, Evans, Hester and Berkley contributed one basket each as the Blue Devils built an 18-14 halftime lead.

Ballard netted 4 points in the quarter for Bladenboro, and Hines scored a basket.
