ELIZABETHTOWN – Malcolm Bolden and Raymond Autry combined for 27 points Tuesday night to lead Elizabethtown to a 42-30 boys basketball victory over Clarkton School of Discovery.
The victory clinched the Bladen Five Middle School Conference regular-season title for the Cougars who raised their record to 7-0. The Blue Devils dropped to 4-3.
Autry muscled inside for two baskets, and Ahmad Powell tossed in a basket as the Cougars edged ahead 6-5 in the opening period. Anthony McGill and Lamont Pridgen sank two free throws each, and Samaj Dove hit one to keep the Blue Devils close.
Jacob Nixon threw in a basket and a free throw for the Cougars in the second quarter, and Bolden, Ty Mathis and Chase Starkloff delivered a basket each as the lead grew to 15-11 at halftime.
McGill hurled in a pair of second period baskets for Clarkton, and Smith dropped in one.
Bolden blistered the nets with five third quarter baskets and a free throw for the Cougars. Powell and Starkloff added baskets, and Autry knocked in a pair of free throws as the Cougar lead grew to 32-21.
Pridgen and Smith banged in two baskets each for CSD in the third quarter, and Dove tacked on a basket.
Nyquan Richardson bombed in a 3-point shot for the Blue Devils in the final quarter, and McGill and Dove scored baskets. Smith and Travail Baldwin hit free throws for Clarkton in the period.
Autry battled inside for a trio of baskets that kept the Cougars on top in the final quarter. Bolden and Powell netted a basket each in the period.
Bolden led all scorers with 15 points, and Autry followed with 12 points. Powell totaled 6 points.
McGill topped the Clarkton scoring with 8 points, and Smith followed with 7 points. Pridgen finished with 6 points, and Dove tallied 5.
