ELIZABETHTOWN – E. Kemp threw in 3 baskets to spark a 10-0 3rd quarter run that carried Whiteville Central to a 45-21 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over Elizabethtown Thursday night.

Jaden Lewis flipped in a baseline runner to start the game for the Cougars, but the Hornets scored the next 12 points. Damian Maynor halted the run with a 15-footer.

John Monroe delivered a pair of assists to Tykee Hill who muscled in a pair of Cougar baskets in the 2nd period. Sheldon Melvin sank a free throw, and Lewis beat the buzzer with a runner that kept Elizabethtown within 21-11 at halftime.

After the scoreless 3rd quarter, Hill and Nathan Demery tossed in lay-ups for the Cougars in the final period. Melvin made 2 free throws, Monore hit one, and Fox Sutton buried a 3-point shot for Elizabethtown.

Hill led the Cougars with 6 points and 5 rebounds. Lewis followed with 4 points, and Sutton and Melvin scored 3 points each. T. Rose topped the Whiteville scoring with 9 points, and Kemp followed with 7.

The Cougars, now 0-2 in the league and 1-4 overall, will travel to Tar Heel Thursday.
