TAR HEEL –C. Butler and B. Tedder combined for 25 points Thursday night to lead Whiteville Central to a 56-18 Waccamaw Middle School Conference ‘AA’ Division boys’ basketball victory over Tar Heel.
Butler poured in 15 points to lead all scorers. Tedder followed with 10 points. Keon Whittington led the Panthers with 6 points, and Levi Garcia added 4 points.
Whittington and Cedric McKiver tossed in a basket and a free throw each to keep Tar Heel within 12-6. Whittington buried a 3-point shot in the 2nd period, and Oswaldo Fuentes and Garcia threw in a basket each. However 13 first-half points from Butler sparked Central to a 26-13 halftime lead.
Garcia popped in a 3rd quarter basket, and teammate Jarvis McMillian sank 2 free throws. Sterling Davis canned a free throw for the Panthers in the final period. The Hornets closed the game with a 30-5 surge.
Tar Heel, now 1-8, will travel to Elizabethtown Tuesday.
