ELIZABETHTOWN – Seth Faircloth and Alejandro Lopez fired in goals Monday as Tar Heel rallied for a 2-1 victory over Elizabethtown in Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys’ soccer action.

Ishaq Algozy staked the Cougars to the early 1-0 lead launching a shot from the left wing that the Panther keeper reached but couldn’t stop.

Faircloth knocked a low skidding goal through traffic later in the half to knot the score 1-1. Lopez banged in the go-ahead goal early in the 2nd half.

Cougar goalie Fox Sutton made a number of big stops in the opening half, and Panther goalie Wilvert Funez came up with some key plays in the 2nd half.

It was the season opener for both squads. Coach Brett Jackson’s Panthers will host East Columbus Thursday, while the Cougars will travel to West Columbus Thursday.
