TAR HEEL – A 19-5 third-quarter spurt propelled Bladenboro to a 39-17 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls basketball victory over Tar Heel Thursday.

Rylee Chadwick tossed in a basket and a free throw in the opening period, and Lainey Autry, MaKayla Wright and McKenzie Singletary dropped in baskets. Mallory Bryan canned a free throw as Bladenboro built 10-2 lead.

Len’ya Harrell flipped in the first Tar Heel basket then popped in 2 more baskets in the second quarter. Autry and Chadwick rang up baskets for the Lady Bulldogs, and Wright hit a free throw as the lead grew to 15-6 at halftime.

Chadwick drove for a pair of baskets and a free throw in the third quarter. Autry and Wright pumped in 2 baskets each, Bryan sank 2 free throws, and Whitney McLean and Marly Crabtree added a basket each as the lead stretched to 34-11.

Tiannah Willis drilled in a 3-point shot for Tar Heel in the third quarter, and Harrell threw in another basket. Keira Lewis bombed in a 3-point shot for the Lady Panthers in the final period. Harrell hurled in another basket, and Sherlyn Martinez made a free throw.

McKenzie Singletary and Kaden Thurman contributed a basket each for Bladenboro in the final period, and Crabtree tacked on a free throw.

Chadwick led the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points. Autry followed with 8 points, and Wright finished with 7 points. Harrell topped the Lady Panther scoring with 10 points.

Coach Joey Autry’s Lady Bulldogs improved to 9-4 with the victory and will travel to Elizabethtown Monday.
