WHITEVILLE – Maegan Burney fired in 19 points Thursday to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 49-22 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls basketball over Williams Township.

Coach Chris Callihan’s Lady Blue Devils had clinched the Waccamaw’s AA Division championship with their victory over Hallsboro Tuesday.

Burney lit up the scoreboard with 4 baskets in the opening period. Center AnnaGrey Heustess worked the paint for a pair of baskets, and Makayla Dixon sank 2 free throws as the Lady Blue Devils built a 14-4 lead.

Dixon threw in a pair of baskets in the second quarter, and Burney and Gabby Nealey tossed in a basket each as the CSD lead grew to 22-8. Bethany Lupo scored all 8 of the Williams points in the half.

Burney blistered the nets again in the third quarter with 4 baskets and a free throw. Heustess pumped in a trio of baskets to pad the Lady Blue Devil lead to 37-16.

Shy’Asia Ratliff took charge for Clarkton in the final period firing in 3 baskets and 2 free throws. Dixon popped in 2 more baskets in the quarter.

Heustess and Dixon finished with 10 points each for the winners, and Ratliff contributed 8 points. Lupo topped the Lady Aggie scoring with 19 points.

The Lady Blue Devils improved to 13-1 and will close out their season at Whiteville Central Monday.
