CLARKTON – Clarkton School of Discovery raced to leads of 7-0 and 18-3 en route to a 25-12 victory over Elizabethtown in Bladen Five Middle School Conference girls basketball action.
The victory completed an undefeated regular season for the Lady Blue Devils who now own a 6-0 record. Elizabethtown is now 4-2.
Mariah Smith nailed a first quarter 3-point shot and hit 2 free throws, and Lauren Bowen tossed in a basket as the Lady Blue Devils built a 7-0 lead.
Bowen threw in a pair of baskets and a free throw in the second quarter, and Khadijah Jones pumped in a pair of baskets. Katie Evans added a basket as the Lady Blue Devils stretched their lead to 18-3.
Tinyauh Rhoda bombed in a 3-point shot for the Elizabethtown points.
Smith buried another 3-point shot in the third quarter, and Jones drove for a basket as the lead grew to 23-5. Lavada Jackson connected for the Lady Cougar basket.
Elizabethtown closed the gap in the final period. Jackson netted a basket and a free throw, and Alexus Mitchell and Rhoda collected a basket each. Smith knocked down a pair of free throws for the Clarkton points in the quarter.
Smith topped the Clarkton scoring with 10 points. Bowen followed with 7 points, and Jones finished with 6 points.
Rhodie and Jackson led the Elizabethtown scoring with 5 points each.
