NAKINA – Nakina rode a 17-1 3rd quarter spurt to a 36-21 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls’ basketball victory over Clarkton School of Discovery Thursday.

T. Strickland pumped in 7 of her game-high 12 points during the winning spurt, and C. Sasser threw in 3 baskets. B. Price finished with 8 points for the Lady Mustangs, and L. Grice added 7 points.

Cabria Baldwin bombed in a 3-point shot and another basket to start the game. Teammates Brenna Hester and Tyliah Freeman tossed in a basket each, and Nevaeh Brown tacked on a free throw to keep Clarkton tied 10-10 at the 1st quarter break.

Brown popped in a basket to keep the Lady Blue Devils within 17-12 at halftime. Hester sank a free throw in the 3rd period.  Brown drained a pair of baskets in the final period, and Baldwin and Madison Carney hurled in a basket each.

Baldwin and Brown shared scoring honors for Clarkton with 7 points each.

“We put up a better fight against them this time, just couldn’t pull out the win,” said CSD Coach Savanna Elkins. The Lady Blue Devils, now 3-3, will host Bladenboro Tuesday.
