TABOR CITY – Clarkton School of Discovery raced to leads of 9-0, 15-1 and 19-5 then held off a late Tabor City rally to claim a 27-22 Waccamaw Middle School Conference softball victory Thursday.

Walks to Kynzlee Wood, pitcher Zoie Durden, and Nadya Colon started the Clarkton 1st inning, before Nevaeh Brown slammed a double to center field. Rahnyia McLean, Madelyn Hall and Tyliah Freeman drew walks, before Ellie Kinlaw hammered a double to center field.

Camryn Wood and Colon were hit by pitches, and Kynzlee Wood and McLean drew walks. Kynzlee Wood, Durden, Colon, Brown, McLean, Hall, Freeman, Kinlaw and Camryn Wood all scored runs to put CSD up 9-0.

Hall and Camryn Wood sandwiched walks around a Kinlaw single to start the Clarkton 2nd inning. Kynzlee Wood was hit by a pitch, and Durden walked. Colon belted a single to right field, and Brown blasted a 3-run home run to center field. Hall, Kinlaw, Camryn Wood, Durden, Colon and Brown scored runs as the Blue Devil lead grew to 15-1.

Tyliah Freeman, Kinlaw and Camryn Wood drew walks to begin the Lady Blue Devil 3rd inning. Kynzlee Wood drilled a single to right-center field. Colon walked, and Brown smacked a single. Freeman, Camryn Wood, Kynzlee Wood and Colon all scored to stretch the lead to 19-5.

McLean, Hall, Freeman, Kinlaw and Camryn Wood all drew walks to start the Clarkton 4th inning. Kynzlee Wood and Colon were hit by pitches, and Durden smacked a single.

McLean, Hall and Freeman drew walks. McLean scored twice in the inning, and Hall, Freeman, Kinlaw, Camryn Wood, Kynzlee Wood, Durden and Colon scored 1 run each as the CSD lead swelled to 27-13. Tabor City scored 9 runs in the bottom of the 4th.

Brown batted 3-for-5 with a double, a 3-run homer and 2 runs scored. Kinlaw finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, 2 walks and 3 runs scored. Kynzlee Wood singled, walked twice, was hit by pitches twice and scored 3 runs. Colon singled, walked twice, was hit by pitches twice and scored 4 runs. Durden singled, walked twice and scored 3 runs.

McLean walked 5 times and scored 3 runs. Hall walked 5 times and scored 3 runs. Freeman walked 4 times and scored 3 runs. Camryn Wood walked 3 times, was hit by a pitch and scored 3 runs. Clarkton batters drew 25 walks and were hit by pitches 5 times.

It was the first win of the season for the Lady Blue Devils who will travel to Nakina Monday.

“I am glad the girls got a win,” said Clarkton Coach Erin Wakefield. “I have seen their improvement throughout the season.”
