East Bladen’s Lady Eagles will host the High Point Andrews Lady Red Raiders Thursday at 6 p.m. in the second round of the NCHSAA Class 2A Girls Basketball Play-offs.

Coach Patty Evers’ East Bladen squad has now won 19 consecutive games since their only loss of the season to Class 4A Wilmington Hoggard in the Leon Brogden Holiday Tournament in December.

In Tuesday night’s 72-34 East victory over Oxford Webb, senior Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson posted a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds, and junior Patience Ward fired in 17 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.

Senior Erica McKoy racked up 12 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds against Webb. Freshman Maya McDonald came off the bench to tally 11 points and 5 rebounds.

Senior Ashley Hardin dished out 4 assists and scored 5 points, and junior center Lorna Mendell collected 5 rebounds and blocked 5 shots.

Coach John Shearin’s High Point Andrews squad won the Pac 7 Conference tournament championship and tied for second in the regular season with Providence Grove behind first-place Randleman.

The Lady Red Raiders lost twice to Randleman and twice to Class 4A rival High Point Central. Other losses were to Mitchell and Jordan-Matthews. Tuesday night Andrews eliminated defending state champion North Pitt 44-34.

Junior Jeriel Nesbitt leads the Lady Red Raider attack scoring 14.6 points per game. Junior Sequoyah Johnson throws in 11.9 ppg. Other key contributors are sophmore Kireatha Baker (8.8 ppg), sophmore Derakah Perry (7.7 ppg) and senior Bre Lawson (4.6 ppg).

The winner of Thursday night’s game will play the winner of Kinston/Roanoke Rapids on Saturday.
