ELIZABETHTOWN – Washington fought off 4 match points and scored the final 6 points of the match to rally past East Bladen 3-2 Saturday by set scores of 25-14, 25-23, 21-25, 23-25 and 16-14 in the opening round of the NCHSAA Class 2A Volleyball Playoffs.

Senior AnnaGrey Heustess began the final set with a service run of 7 consecutive points to put the Lady Eagles ahead 8-1. The lead grew to 10-2 on a Maegan Burney service point. The visitors rallied to within 12-10, before a Trinity Cromartie service point pushed the margin to 14-10.

Senior Tyajah Windley reeled off 5 straight service points during the deciding rally for the Lady Pam Pack.

Heustess started the match with a trio of service points as East grabbed a 4-0 lead in the opening set. Shaelee Chrismon’s trio of service points rallied Washington to within 5-4. Later in the set Chrismon captured 6 straight service points as the Lady Pam Pack went up 21-10. The power hitting of senior Sara Hedrick keyed the visitors attack.

Four service points from senior Emma Turbeville and 3 more from Cromartie opened up a 13-7 East lead in the 2nd set. Four service points each from Chrismon and sophomore Brodee Cameron vaulted Washington in front 24-19. Turbeville answered with a trio of service points, but a side-out ended the set at 25-23.

Burney delivered a trio of service points to put East up 6-3 in the 3rd set. Senior Acee Campbell knocked in a trio of service points to keep the Lady Eagles on top 17-13. Service points from seniors Cromartie and Karli Priest kept the margin at 22-18, and the teams traded side-outs as East took the set 25-21.

Two service points each from Heustess and Turbeville edged East ahead 7-6 in the 4th set. Cromartie, Priest, and Acee Campbell kept the Lady Eagles up 15-14 with a service point each, but 2 service points from Chavez edged Washington ahead 17-16. Turbeville served out the set with a pair of service points at 25-23.

Heustess led the Lady Eagles with 13 service points, and Turbeville totaled 11 service points. Cromartie finished with 8 service points, and Burney followed with 7 service points. Acee Campbell tallied 4 service points, and Priest added 3 service points.

Chrismon racked up 17 service points to lead the Lady Pam Pack. Windley followed with 10 service points, Chavez collected 9 service points, and senior Ava Mizelle had 8 service points.

It was the final game for 7 East Bladen seniors – AnnaGrey Heustess, Maegan Burney, Acee Campbell, Trinity Cromartie, Karli Priest, Cydney Campbell and Emma Turbeville.

Coach Jordan Raynor’s squad finished with a 12-7 record. Washington advances to play at No. 3 East seed Farmville Central.
