The Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy held a parade this morning to honor the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, Elizabethtown Fire Department, Elizabethtown Police Department, and the North Carolina Highway Patrol. Sheriff Jim McVicker served as the reviewing officer for the ceremony. Elizabethtown Police department Chief Tony Parish and Elizabethtown Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Jamie Smith made up the official party. During the parade all members past and present of the four agencies were recognized for their service to this community. There was a moment of silence followed by a bell ringing eight times for the eight North Carolina firefighters that have died in the last year. The parade was held in conjunction with National Police Officers Week.
