West Bladen grad Rahu Purdie fired in 13 points Saturday as his Lander Bearcats claimed a 77-70 Peach Belt Conference basketball victory over Georgia Southwestern in Americus, GA.
Purdie connected on 5 of his 7 shots from the field and made 3 of 6 free throws. The 5-7 freshman grabbed 2 rebounds and added 2 steals and an assist.
The White Oak native scored 8 points in the final 4:48 of the first half. Purdie canned a jump shot, dropped in two lay-ups and sank 2 free throws as the Bearcats stretched their halftime lead to 42-34.
Purdie pumped in a jump shot and drove for a lay-up and a 46-34 lead two minutes into the second half. Purdie added a free throw to keep the Bearcats up 49-42 with 15:40 left to play.
Lander remained unbeaten in the Peach Belt at 3-0. The Bearcats are 9-2 overall and will be idle until Dec. 30 when they host Paine at 5:30.
