Gavin Elks pitched a 4-hitter, walked 1 and struck out 8 batters Thursday night as the Grey edged the Red 3-2 in a Bladen Recreation 13-14 baseball make-up game.

Cole Butler reached base on an error, Elks walked and Colton Daly knocked in Butler with a 1st inning single for a 1-0 Grey lead. Butler walked in the 3rd inning, and Elks reached base on a fielder’s choice. Carson Gooden walked, and Elks eventually scored for a 2-0 lead.

Cade Allen cracked a single and scored in the 4th inning to whittle the Grey lead to 2-1. Elks walked in the 5th but was retired on Daly’s fielder’s choice. Daly eventually scored to push the Grey lead to 3-1.

Aiden Russ reached base on an error and sprinted home when Luke Howell smashed a double to trim the final margin to 3-2 in the 7th inning. Russ and Conner Smith connected for one hit each for the Red.

Allen pitched the first 3 innings for the Red and gave up 4 walks and a hit while striking out 5. Hezekiah Blanks-Adams struck out 7 batters in his 3 innings of relief while walking 4.
