The Howlers and the Stars split a double-header Thursday night in Bladen County Recreation 8-10 Softball action. The Howlers won the opener 2-1 while the Stars claimed a 1-0 victory in the nightcap.

One of the games was a make-up of a game that had been postponed by weather earlier in the season.

Bristol Allen pitched a 1-hitter and knocked in the eventual deciding run with a 1st inning double in the Howlers 2-1 victory in Game 1.

Hadley Dove ignited the Howlers 2-run 1st inning with a single, advanced on a pair of passed balls and dashed home when Karlee Gause smacked a single. Allen slammed a double that drove in Gause.

Landry Singletary belted a 1st inning single, advanced on a passed ball and an error and raced home with the only Stars run as Allison Hickman reached base.

Hickman who pitched both games for the Stars allowed only 3 hits in the opening game then pitched a 1-hit shutout in the second game. Hickman led off the Stars’ 2nd inning with a single, stole 2 bases then darted home on a passed ball with Game 2’s only run.

Maycee Kinlaw pitched a 2-hitter for the Howlers in the 2nd game. Hayleigh Simmons laced a single in the 3rd inning for the only Howler hit, while Madelyn Hall connected for the Stars other hit.
