Bladenboro, North Carolina – On Thursday, September 7th, Bladenboro, North Carolina, hosted Clay Rice, the celebrated silhouette artist and award-winning children’s author. The event started at Bridger Memorial Library. Following the book readings at the library, Rice paid a visit to Market on Main. Attendees had the chance to meet Rice, engage in an interactive book reading session, and get their silhouettes made by the famous artist.

Known for his captivating silhouette portrait art and heartwarming children’s stories, Rice hails from Charleston, South Carolina. With a mission to bring his family’s unique silhouette art to audiences nationwide, he frequently traveled across the United States, partnering with schools and stores to showcase his remarkable talent.

Rice quickly cut out Isabella Dowless’ silhouette like a knife on warm butter. Isabella was estatic. She enjoyed her new piece of art so much that she proudly displayed it to everyone in the library.

After Rice captured the audience’s attention with the silhouette skills he learned from his grandfather, he read three of his five books to the children in attendance.

Susan Guyton with the library said, “He did a good job holding their attention while he read the three books.”

His literary portfolio included five children’s books:

1. The Lonely Shadow

2. Mama, Let’s Make a Moon

3. The Stick

4. Ants n’ Uncles

5. At the Stroke of Goodnight

He read the first three books to the Bladenboro audience. The event at Bridger Memorial Library provided an exciting and educational experience for attendees of all ages. The subsequent visit to Market on Main allowed attendees to take advantage of Rice’s artistic skills and have their silhouettes created by the master.

Market on Main posted about the event, saying, “This was amazing to watch him study each precious face and cut out the silhouette by hand. These are going to make great gifts and keepsakes!”

When asked what kind of materials he uses for his silhouettes, he said he uses different materials, but contact paper is popular. He mentioned materials may be found online to purchase for silhouette projects.
