ELIZABETHTOWN – With his father, coaches, administrators and teammates in attendance, East Bladen senior Rodney Lacewell signed a letter of intent Tuesday to continue his football career at North Carolina State University next season.

Lacewell, a 6-7, 300-pound offensive lineman, will attempt to follow in the footsteps of another East Bladen star, Larrell Murchison, who played 2 seasons at N. C. State and has played 4 seasons in the National Football League with the Titans and the Los Angeles Rams.

“It really means something when they (State) reached out to him,” said East Bladen Coach Robby Priest. “They saw him in the East-West game, and Coach T contacted us.” Coach T is Henry Trevathan Jr., the Director of High School Relations on Coach Dave Doeren’s staff.

Rodney’s dad, Rodney D. Lacewell, shared, “We really enjoyed our visit to the campus. The facilities – everything about it was first-class. I couldn’t believe how many people were there for the spring game.”

Besides the honor of being selected to play in the East-West All-Star game this past season, Lacewell was also an All-Waccamaw Conference selection.

Lacewell said that it is too early to decide on a major, but he is leaning toward something in sports medicine.

Football practice is scheduled to begin June 19th for the Wolfpack.
