CHARLOTTE – West Bladen grad Sayaun Dent was named to the NJCAA Division III 2019-2020 All-American Men’s Basketball First Team Monday by the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Men’s Basketball Committee.

Dent was the Most Valuable Player in the NJCAA Division III tournament as he led his Sandhills Community College Flyers to the national championship. In the title game Dent fired in 17 of his game-high 27 points in the second half as the Flyers outlasted Mohawk Valley, NY 93-89.

In his 3 games in the national tournament, Dent racked up 57 points and 27 rebounds and posted a pair of double-doubles. The Elizabethtown native led the Flyers in scoring (17.8 points) and rebounding (8) and posted 13 double-doubles on the season.

Sandhills entered the national tournament as the top seed and was ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA Division III national polls for the final 7 weeks of the season. The Flyers won their final 18 games in a row and finished with a 34-2 record.

Dent was named the Region X Player of the Year as the Flyers claimed the Region X title with a perfect 9-0 record.
