ASHEVILLE – Bladenboro native Scott Bowen won the 93 kg class in the junior division at the Power Mountain Showcase Saturday. It was Bowen’s first time competing in a powerlifting event.

Competitors in the Showcase, a USA Powerlifting event, executed 3 lifts in each of 3 disciplines with their best lift in each discipline counting toward their event total. Bowen recorded a personal best in the squat with a lift of 217 kg (497 lbs.)

Bowen bench-pressed 135 kg (298 lbs.) then notched another personal best with a deadlift of 237 kg (523 lbs.) His total of 590 kg (1,300 lbs.) for the 3 disciplines not only won the 93 kg class for Bowen but also placed him fourth in the entire junior division regardless of class.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions all of the participants and spectators were required to wear a mask Saturday. Even so Bowen said, “It was a really nice experience. I plan to compete again, maybe after I build myself up a little more. I was the lightest person in the 93 kg class.”

Bowen works out at Dream Works in Elizabethtown and also conducts personal training. He can be contacted at 910-918-3145 or at scottbowenfitness@gmail.com.
