ELIZABETHTOWN – Senior Olivia Watts pitched a 6-hitter and struck out 4 to lead South Columbus to a 7-1 Waccamaw Conference softball victory over East Bladen Wednesday in the season-opener for the Lady Eagles.

The two teams will meet again Friday night at South Columbus. The Lady Stallions are now 3-1 overall.

South scored 4 runs in the 1st inning on 2 errors and 3 hits. The Lady Stallions tacked on 3 more runs in the 4th inning on 3 hits and a walk.

Sophomore Niyah Wooten ripped a single to left field in the East Bladen 6th inning, advanced on a fielder’s choice and an error then raced home when freshman Jamiee Perkins lined a single to left field.

Wooten and sophomore Gracey Clark both batted 2-for-3 to lead the Lady Eagles at the plate, and Wooten scored a run. Perkins contributed the run-scoring hit, and junior Mollie Tolar belted a single.

Sophomore Jenna Brice pitched a complete game for East and allowed 7 runs – 3 earned – on 8 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4.

Brileigh Ward batted 2-for-4 for South with a double, 2 runs batted in and a run scored. Senior Jakiyah Graham was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Carmen Buck doubled, scored a run and had an RBI.
