BLADENBORO – North Brunswick scored 6 runs in the middle innings and held on for an 8-5 non-conference baseball victory over West Bladen Wednesday night. The Scorpions used 6 pitchers to secure the win.

West Bladen, now 1-3 will travel to East Columbus Thursday night for a 6:30 game. North Brunswick, now 3-1, will visit Laney Friday night.

After the Scorpions turned 2 walks and a wild pitch into a 1st inning run, Knight junior Garrett Dunham lined a single to center field, stole 2nd base and raced home with the tying run as sophomore Hunter Hester reached base on an error.

Sophomore Fisher Goodwin pounded a double to left-center field to start the Scorpion 4th inning. After William Jones reached on a passed 3rd strike, Goodwin scored on a passed ball. Two singles and an error later North had tacked on 3 more runs for a 5-1 lead.

Sophomore Mason Jones led off the Knight 4th inning with a single. Weston Hilburn was hit by a pitch, and Dunham walked. Mason Jones dashed home on an error by the catcher, and junior Brady Durden yanked a single to left that scored Hilburn and Dunham and whittled the lead to 5-4.

Joshua Hauser doubled to start the North 5th inning, advanced on a passed ball and scored on Goodwin’s sacrifice fly. William Jones walked, stole 2nd base and scored on Justin Evans’ single to pad the lead to 7-4.

Four Scorpion singles produced another run in the 7th inning. Davis, Will Durden and Jahmar Richardson drew walks to start the West half of the 7th. Davis scored the final Knight run on a wild pitch.

Dunham, Brady Durden, Jordan Hester, Davis and Mason Jones belted 1 hit each for the Knights. Brady Durden knocked in 2 runs. Dunham scored 2 runs, and Davis, Mason Jones and Hilburn scored 1 run each.

Davis started and pitched 3 innings allowing 5 runs – 4 earned – on 3 hits and 4 walks while striking out 3. Aiden Russ worked 3 innings of relief and gave up 3 runs – 2 earned – on 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 2. Brady Durden pitched a scoreless inning of relief and allowed 1 hit while striking out 2.

Cody Callahan and Goodwin both batted 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored each to lead the North hitters. Evans was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Zachary Ashmore, the 3rd of 6 Scorpion pitchers, picked up the win.
