ST PAULS – A 9-run 5th inning explosion carried West Bladen to a 12-1 Southeastern Athletic Conference softball victory over St. Pauls Tuesday night.

Senior Rylee Chadwick reached base on an error to begin the pivotal 5th inning. Senior Kylie Durden slapped a single off the pitcher, and junior Gracie Faircloth reached base on an error that scored Chadwick. Durden scooted home on a passed ball.

Senior Kaitlynn Brisson walked, and freshman Kali Allen’s grounder plated Faircloth. Junior Megan Pait walked, and senior Madison Taylor reached base on an error that scored Brisson. Senior Mackenzie Singletary walked, and Chadwick ripped a single to left-center field that scored Pait and Taylor.

Durden hammered a single to center field, and an error on the play cleaned the bases scoring Jahyrah Priest, the courtesy runner for Singletary, Chadwick and Durden to stretch the lead to 12-1.

Durden batted 2-for-2 with an RBI and 3 runs scored to lead the West hitters. Chadwick finished 2-for-4 at the plate with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Faircloth doubled, was hit by a pitch, had an RBI and scored twice. Brisson and Allen both singled and had RBIs. Brisson, Pait, Taylor and Priest scored runs.

Chadwick pitched a 3-hitter and allowed an unearned run on 3 hits and 4 walks – 2 intentional – while striking out 7.

St. Pauls pitcher Yomaris Vasquez reached base on an error and scored on freshman Angel Purcell’s 2-out double in the 1st inning. Purcell was walked intentionally on her next 2 trips to the plate. Hailey Ray doubled in the 5th inning, and Roni Hightower singled for the other Lady Bulldog hits.

Durden walked in the Lady Knight 1st inning and sprinted home when Brisson yanked a single to left and the ball was misplayed by the fielder.

Chadwick led off the 3rd inning with a single to left, and Faircloth walloped a double to drive her in. Allen’s bunt single scored Faircloth and put the Lady Knights ahead 3-1.

Coach Pam Stephens’ Lady Knights ran their winning streak to 8 games and have won 13 of their last 14 games to remain unbeaten at 9-0 in SAC-7 play and improve their overall mark to 14-5. West Bladen will host St. Pauls Wednesday night.
