ST PAULS – Sophomore Rylee Chadwick and junior Jessalyn Vendricks combined to pitch a one-hitter and strike-out 12 batters as West Bladen rolled to an 18-1 season-opening softball victory Monday night.

 

Chadwick pitched the 1st 4 innings and struck out 9 batters while allowing a run on 2 hits and a walk. Vendricks struck out 3 batters and walked one in her hitless inning in the circle.

 

Senior Abigail Madden batted a perfect 5-for-5, knocked in 3 runs and scored 3 to lead the Lady Knights 14-hit attack. Freshman Lena Trinidad turned in a 2-for-3 game at the plate, scored 5 runs, walked twice and drove in a run. Chadwick finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk, a run batted in and a run scored.

Vendricks slammed 2 doubles, knocked in 4 runs and scored twice. Sophomore Kylie Durden hammered a 2-run double, walked and scored twice. Sophomore Madison Taylor singled, drove in a run and scored twice. Senior Shelby Pharr belted a single, walked twice and scored a run.

 

Junior Hannah Pait drove in 3 runs, and senior Madison Walters had one RBI. Junior Taylor Lewis and sophomore Hailey Guyton both drew walks and scored runs.

 

Trinidad and Madden started the game with singles. Taylor’s fielder’s choice plated Trinidad, and Vendricks smashed a double that drove in Taylor. Chadwick laced a single to centerfield, and Pait’s sacrifice fly scored Vendricks. Pharr cracked a single to right-center that plated Chadwick for a 4-0 Lady Knight lead.

 

Trinidad walked, and Madden slapped a single to left to begin the 2nd inning. Taylor ripped a single that plated Trinidad, and Pait’s fielder’s choice scored Madden for a 6-1 lead.

 

Pharr and Durden drew walks to start the 3rd inning, and Trinidad reached on an error that plated Durden. Madden swatted a single to left that drove in Trinidad. After Taylor walked, Vendricks yanked a double to left that scored Madden. Chadwick’s single brought home Taylor, and Pait’s grounder plated Vendricks for an 11-1 lead.

 

Pharr led off the 4th inning with a walk, advanced on Durden’s sacrifice bunt and Trinidad’s bunt single, then raced home on Madden’s single. After Taylor walked, Vendricks’ fielder’s choice plated Trinidad to pad the lead to 13-1.

 

Walks to Lewis and Guyton began the Lady Knight 5th inning. Durden drilled a double to centerfield that scored Lewis and Guyton. Trinidad walked before another Madden single plated Durden. Trinidad darted home on a passed ball, and Walters’ fielder’s choice scored Madden.

 

Senior Braxtin Kinlaw legged out a bunt single, stole a base and scored the St. Pauls run on senior Alicia Monroe’s single in the 1st inning. Junior Madison Williams started in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs.

 

Coach Pam Stephens’ Lady Knights are slated to host East Columbus Thursday.
