ELIZABETHTOWN – West Bladen’s Kaden Thurman, East Bladen’s Heather Hardin and the Lady Eagle doubles team of Jayden Willington and McKenzie Williams all advanced to the Class 2A Mid East Regionals with top 5 finishes in the Southeastern Athletic Conference championship tournament Wednesday.

Thurman (pictured above) won the opening set of her championship singles match against Clinton’s Zoey Brewer 6-2, but then dropped the next 2 sets 6-1 and 7-5. The West Bladen junior was the top seed in the conference tournament due to having the best record in singles play during the season and advances as the conference runner-up.

Hardin advanced through the consolation bracket with victories over West Bladen’s Courtney Hester 6-2, 6-2 and Fairmont’s Addison Waldo 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 to claim the No. 5 berth in the regionals.

Willington and McKenzie Williams won their opening match in consolation bracket play over St. Pauls Zuri Cantor and Zeydi Regino 6-1, 6-2 then defeated West Bladen’s Kiera Lewis and Brookee Singletary 6-1, 6-3 to win the No. 5 berth in the doubles regional.

Lewis and Singletary won their opening round consolation bracket match over East Bladen’s Ashlyn Williams and Jessica Johnson 6-4, 6-1.

The 2A Mid East Regionals are scheduled to begin October 22nd at Bill Cooke Park at Burlington Cummings High School.
