The opioid epidemic touches many lives and does not discriminate. The Center’s For Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Ga. report there has been a 24 percent increase in opioid overdoes deaths in North Carolina.

A statewide opioid forum is planned by the North Carolina Community Action Association (NCCAA) for Tuesday, May 8, at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Asheville, NC from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.Seating is limited and lunch will be provided. You can register for the forum by going to www.ccaa.net and click under the Opioid Forum tab.

Some of the information offered at the forum includes discussions on how to prevent opioid misuse, education, and potential solutions. The keynote speaker for the event will be Dr. Blake Fagan, Chief Education Officer with the Mountain Area Health Education Center.

UNC-TV will also air their documentary A Crisis: North Carolina’s Opioid Battle. There will also be a panel discussion to follow.

From 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., there will be a community resource fair where members of the community as well as those attending the meeting can receive information about available resources.
