Conditions were ideal Saturday morning for a leisurely walk through a quiet Clarkton neighborhood.

About 30 people gathered to do just that. In the process, they helped raised $488 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The Clarkton Lions Club held its ninth annual event that brought people together in the fight against diabetes.

The 5k walk began at the back of the parking lot beside Clarkton First Baptist Church. From there, the walkers went along East Currie Street, East Roberts Street, North Singletary Street, North College Street, East Graham Street and North Singletary Street to complete a lap. It took two laps to complete 3.1 miles.

The Clarkton Lions Club meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. every month inside the Clarkton Fire Department on Peach Street. The club is seeking new members and welcome those who are interested in serving the community to attend a meeting to learn more about the organization.
