Bladen County’s Kayla Thompson played a couple of solid rounds of golf last week in the Heritage Classic in Wichita, Kansas, but her 75-74=149 came up short of the cut in the four-round Women’s All Pro Tour tournament.

Thompson had three birdies and eight bogeys in her two rounds on the par-72, 6,400-yard Rolling Hills Country Club layout. She birdied the par-4 406-yard fourth hole in both rounds and also had a birdie on the par-3, 158-yard ninth hole in her second round.

Thompson lives in Clarkton and graduated from West Bladen High School and UNC Wilmington.

Winning the ladies’ event, and taking home $20,000, was Gurlean Kaur, who shot 23 under par to win by five strokes.
