Elizabethtown native Command Sgt. Annie L. Walker will be the guest speaker at the 10th Annual Bladen
County Veterans Day Ceremony today at 11 a.m. today at the Elizabethtown National Guard Armory.
Bladen Community College is sponsoring a Veterans Day program beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at the
college.
Political action should begin to pick up soon. Filing for political offices from the Courthouse to the
White House begins at noontime December 1st and ends at 12 noon Monday, December 21, 2015.
If you have concerns about any office and you have a better idea, pay your filing fees and tell your story
and if you convince others you have a better plan, and are elected, your vote will really count. If you
sit on your hands and do not offer an alternative, keep on complaining.
The Annual Star Telephone meeting will be held in Clinton at the Sampson County Agri-Exposition Center
Saturday, November 14, beginning at 10 a.m. Star subscribers are encouraged to attend. Three Directors
will be elected, the Cross Country Comedy team will provide entertainment, annual reports will be presented
and prizes will be given-a-way.
I spent some time during the night (when I should have been asleep) thinking about our distinguished group
of candidates for president. I appreciate all who offer themselves, but better stick to the truth, as best
you can. Every comment is compared with the facts by numerous truth squads. What I have learned is some
have trouble with the truth, some have problems with credit cards, and unfortunately, one received just $1
million dollars to begin a career as a young man and another is labeled as a socialist. Some are having
trouble gaining any traction…
We tend to talk trash about those we dislike and overlook shortcomings of those we think we like…
Hope to see sunshine today. Despite the dark, wet, gloomy conditions, rainfall at the Hester household,
southwest of Elizabethtown was less than three quarters of inch since Saturday.
