Thoughts While Shaving
Spread the love
As noted earlier, I have been ‘on the road again’, and the best part of any trip is coming home.  That was more truthful than ever.  Happy Valley roadway suffered some damage during the recent storm, but neighbors and others that use the road were allowed to use a single lane for a short distance and were thankful.  Don’t know of any ‘raising cane’ about repairs, knowing full well that others were in much worse condition.  I came ‘scooting’ down the roadway and low and behold, the roadway had been repaired.  Thank you, thank you, thank you to the local NCDOT.
Many roadways have been repaired, others are being and some that suffered more damage will be soon.  All agencies are being ask to do more with less.
The condition of local roadways have not slowed the Early Voting process.  As stated yesterday, on Thursday and Friday over 1500 voted.
There were 22,516 registered voters in the county in early August, the last numbers I saw, probably a few more now.  The breakdown was:
13,627 Democrats
  3,215 Republicans
  5,646 Unaffiliated
       28 Libertarians
I have always enjoyed the election process, maybe a little less so now that I have stepped back.  Just wish it were not so confrontational, but it is what it is.
A little chilly early this AM.  At 6 AM, the temp was 44 and moving down, expected to dip to low 40s, before warming to the upper 60s later today.  Time to turn on the heat.
No spring nor summer beauty hath such grace as I have seen in one autumnal face.
The leaves fall, the wind blows, and the farm country slowly changes from the summer cottons into its winter wools.
Bittersweet October. The mellow, messy, leaf-kicking, perfect pause between the opposing miseries of summer and winter.
Correction on Sales Tax information
BladenOnline.com apologizes for linking to the outdated Sales Tax presentation. In addition we apologize for any articles presenting the quarter cent sales tax increase as being approved to reduce property tax during this Primary Election.
Here is the correct Power Point presentation explaining the use of the sales tax, Sales Tax presentation, if approved for this election cycle. According to the Board of County Commissioners, the sales tax increase on the current ballot will be earmarked for Emergency Services for the county.
The sales tax will not be used to lower property tax as presented during the 2015 election.
