Thoughts While ShavingNCAA Men’s Basketball Champions … UCONN … Connecticut Huskies 76, San Diego State Aztecs 59. 5th championship for the Huskies … San Diego State has never won the championship. There’s always next year…

Weather forecast for Bladen … Mostly cloudy today, then gradually sunny, with a high near 83. Patchy fog after 5 a.m. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 61. Wednesday, patchy fog before 9 a.m. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 87, wind gusts in the 15 mph range. High Thursday near 86 … High Friday, 66 and a 50% chance of rain…

Early forecast for Easter Sunday … Mostly cloudy, with a high near 66 and a 30% chance of rain. Hopefully, not enough rain to cancel Easter egg hunts…

Remember early Easter egg hunts, a long time ago … After boiling the eggs, color them with regular crayons … our parents would hide them, mostly in the yard, around the house.

Easter Sunday meant a feast at our house and a tough time for one hen or rooster … Many times we were at our granddad’s with aunt’s & uncles & cousins … noontime at one grannys and with the others at suppertime…

I often think about planting time in the 1950s and ’60s … no tractors … one horse and one mule. One tall pole deep in the field, make a ridge, to plant the crop … head toward the pole, hopefully in a straight line … One row at a time…

One more thought from yesteryear … I thought the mailman was provided a new vehicle every year … I thought I wanted to do that when I grew up. Mr. Johnny Mercer was our mailman in rural Bladenboro for many years. Always neatly dressed, and driving a new Ford. Years later I discovered he provided the auto … compensated of course…

I enjoy watching the many different kinds of trees behind our house this time of year … Just about every shade of green you can think of … New life…
