It was too hot to do anything outside yesterday … so I watched golf, the PGA playoff held in Memphis … St. Jude Classic…
The winner was Lucus Glover … 2 wins in a row … Top prize yesterday was $3.6 million, about the same as his pay a week ago … Something over $7 million for a couple of weeks work … and eligible for the next tournament that will pay that much or more … Don’t think he is concerned about the minimum salary…
I think my problems over the years attempting to play golf once or twice a week was that my putter was too short … Glover was having issues with a regular putter (short one), switched to a long one … and turned his career around … big time.
Which is the worst … Temps below freezing for a few days in January or February or a couple of weeks or more in August … with temps near or in the upper 90s with a heat index near 110?
High temp yesterday at the local airport NWS location was 97 … felt about 10 degrees hotter…
FYI … The heat advisory continues today … and into the future…
Mostly sunny today, with a high near 97 … heat index values as high as 106, and a 30% chance of rain … Tonight, partly cloudy, with a low around 78…
Tuesday, about the same … A slight chance of rain … Partly cloudy, with a low around 78.
High Wednesday, near 89 … Thursday’s high about 90 degrees … Friday, near 93 … Saturday & Sunday, near 95 … and no room under the shade tree…
Remember last winter when you promised to not complain about the weather, when it was near freezing for a few days?
No joke … this has been one of the all-time hottest Augusts I remember, and another couple of weeks or more to go.
Continue to be aware of youngsters, full of energy, waiting for the school bus along our roadways…
I had too much time to think over the weekend … Thinking about days, years gone by … If I had known then what I know now, I would not spend much time or money for a baseball bat, but swinging a tree limb and pretending it was a golf club…
Speaking of years gone by … Remember years ago when it was time to sell tobacco, tents would ‘pop-up’ through-out the area … Traveling evangelist … the tent, 30 to 40 folding chairs, a speaker’s stand, a PA system and a collection plate … In business…
With that in mind … revivals at churches throughout the area … Sing a few songs, preach for a while and sing some more … As a youngster, my mind kept wondering about how many verses were there in “Just As I Am” … I know, mom told me to keep my mind on the service … So much for hot weather and other things that a young person should not be thinking about…
Sad truth … many in our area, I am told, still are without air conditioning…
“It was so hot”
“I told you to wear sunscreen”
“In a relationship with an air conditioner”
